After his appearance in just half-a-dozen Tamil films, Vishal Reddy has now taken on the title of Puratchi Thalapathi  or Revolutionary Commander.

Wow, in comparison to Vishal even the vainglorious Julius Caesar was a picture of modesty.

As if most Tamil movies are not bad enough, the bizarre titles that many talentless Tamil movie stars give themselves - under the pretext that they are actually given by doting fans - has become ridiculous.

We guess the closest Vishal has ever come to being a Puratchi Thalapathi or Revolutionary Commander is when he goes to the mall or a party with his army of cronies.

But Vishal Reddy is not an exception. In fact, he’s the rule and in august company too.

You have Vijay (hero of the recent flop Azhagiya Tamil Magan) who is Ilaya Thalapathi  or Young General.

When it comes to superlatives, it’s hard to beat Ajith, whose last film Aalwar was a total dud at the boxoffice. You see, Ajith is Ultimate Star.

Short in stature (and talent too if you ask us), Simbhu is Little Superstar.

This craze is not restricted to heroes. These days our favorite Tamil comedian Vadivelu is referred to as Vaigai Puyal (Vaigai Tempest).

This weird craze for titles among film stars is not new in the Tamil movie industry.

The late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and movie star M.G.Ramachandran (MGR) was Makkak Thilagam while his movies rival Sivaji Ganesan was Nadigar Thilagam.

Alas, the reigning God of Tamil films Rajnikant is just a humble Superstar.
