Ayan at U.K. Box Office – Ayyo, Embarrassing

Dai Machchi, Indha Surya Padam oru Sori Padam da. Sori Padam. (Hey buddy, this is a scabies-infested movie).

An ugly movie beyond redemption, Ayan is the latest piece of shit to emerge from the augean sewers of Kollywood.

With not even a fig leaf of a story to cover its ugly entrails, Ayan’s raison d’etre is that a few agents of Lucifer at AVM and Sun Pictures had more money than they knew what to do with – so, they flushed it down the toilet and lo, at the other end of the sewer pipe emerged Ayan.

Zero Entertainment Value
Featuring Surya, Tamanna, Prabhu and two escapees from the Vandalur Zoo answering to the taunts of Akashdeep Sehgal and Jegan and directed by a nincompoop called K.V.Anand, Ayan offers zero entertainment value. Zilch.

With a story not in the least bit credible or gripping, the acting so mediocre and music below average, Ayan left us numb with shock at the amateurishness of it all.

Not for one moment in the two hours and 40 minutes did we get our money’s worth ($12 for the ticket).

Bizarre Story
The silly story centers around a young smuggler Deva (Surya) jetting around the world on smuggling trips for his mentor Das (Prabhu) and making the Indian Customs look like a bunch of buffoons.

A long-haired cartoon character Akashdeep Sehgal plays the villain Kamalesh. If someone were to stick a tail to this Akashdeep character, it’d be completely at home in the Vandalur Zoo as would Jegan who plays Deva’s sidekick Chitti.

Not content merely with making the Indian law enforcement authorities look like a bunch of blithering idiots in this ceaseless affront of a movie, Ayan director Anand adds insult to injury by bizarrely rewarding one of the professional smugglers with the plum government job of Professional Consultant/Officer. Don’t even try to justify this as a reward for assistance rendered in the cause of justice. Some reward. Some justice.

Surya – Mediocre Show
Surya once again delivers a embarrassingly poor performance. Whether on a smuggling mission in Congo, racing around like a maniac in Malaysia or cavorting with his lady love Tamanna, this fella disappoints. Big time.

Even Surya’s dialog delivery lacks pizzazz.

Worse, the clown doesn’t even seem to make an effort, perhaps in asinine hopes that his broad chest will deliver the goods.

At this rate, Surya will have as much success in Kollywood as his old man Sivakumar had in his heydays, which is very little.

Tamanna
Tamanna plays Yamuna, Surya’s lady love in the movie.

Given the sophomoric nonsense of a story, the Mumbai lass doesn’t have much of a role in Ayan except to act like a retard at frequent intervals.

While Tammana is without doubt a better actress than the ugly Kollywood trinity of Nayantara, Trisha and Shriya, we wouldn’t put her in the Meera Jasmine, Sandhya, Navya Nair or Padmapriya category.

By the way, we found Tamanna’s smile bewitching. Sweeeet.

Music
We were not entranced by Ayan’s music either.

What about the picturization of the songs, you ask? Pathetic, in one word. Same old, same old – a bunch of clowns tromping up and down.

Worse, the characters in Ayan break out in songs at the oddest moments. Like for instance when Surya is released from the lockup at the police station, Surya and Tamanna suddenly break out in that stupid Nenje Nenje song.

Never in the history of Tamil movies has there been a song as repulsively picturized as Honey Honey.

Also, will someone please tell Surya and Tamanna that jumping like monkeys reaching for their bananas on a tall tree is not the same as dancing.

So Much for So Little
It boggles the mind that the remorseless bozos behind Ayan went around the world (Malaysia, Namibia and other parts of Africa) to bring us this hellish nightmare. Talk of squandering money.

There were about 25 people for the opening show. The audience didn’t seem to be very engaged with the movie going by the constant chitchat and people walking out.

There weren’t many people waiting for the 7PM show either when we came out around 6:35PM ET. Perhaps, it was the bad weather on the East Coast.

Or maybe word had spread that this piece of trash a.k.a. Ayan is best shown the middle finger.

SearchIndia.com strongly recommends that you stay away from the offensive nightmare that is Ayan if you value your sanity and if you value your money in these hard economic times.

Sori Padam. Tu. Tu

Have I missed something here ? Like a “Catch-me-if-you-can” contest announced by SI, in any of their reply to commenter’s post?

What was the Grand Prize announced?
For non-US resident readers – An all expenses paid – Holiday Trip for four -Two weeks in USA & one week at Hawaii?
For US resident readers – An all expenses paid – One Month Holiday Trip for four – to India ( enough time to meet all their long lost Paatis, aunties, uncles, cousins and un-married sister-in-laws, now living all over India)?

Going by the posts, I presume the following questions were asked:
Q1. How many authors does SI have?
    (a) 1 (b) Between 1 to 3 (c) Between 4 to 6 (d) above 6.

    Q2. Identify the ethnicity:
    (a) Tamizhan (b) Kannadiga (c) Teluguvaalu (d) a combination of any two of (a), (b) & (c).

    Q3.What is the gender ? (He/She/It)
    (a) Avana (He?) (b) Avala (She?) (c) Athuva ( It?)

My answer for the Competition is:
    For Q1 its (b),
    For Q2 its (d) and
For Q3 its (c) …… Aaaaahhaaaa Athuva Neeeeee ? ( in Vadivelu style).

Folks it’s election time now, come on Joe, Dr., Legend, Blasé’, Gora, Guruprasad, Idiot, et all, please cast your votes on the three questions, who knows, one of our families may be sponsored by SI for an All expenses paid Holiday – as above (we will delighfully grab it – in these recessionary times).

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We’ll try to get Vaali and review it here.

  9. Simran’s other good movies..
    Kannathil Muthramittaal
    Paarthaen Rasithaen

  10. kelambu_kaathu says:

did u watch vaali? its not Wall-E, just Vaali….

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, we’ll get it one of these days. Once we watch it, we’ll also review it.

  11. keeboard says:

tam is damn gud. especially in the mobile shop scene.

its good, they should call it ’slow and steady’

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No, we’d love to watch Sin Nombre.

  12. boopalanj says:

It is one of the shitty movies that ‘Sun’ has come up with, as usual. Of course, this piece would have made its way to release, even if Sun had not taken it.

But, an appreciative review by Sun Tv, trailers for every 5 minutes in all the sun-family channels [I hope you dont watch them!], an exclusive reporting in the general prime-time sun news are all what is maddening..

Leaving this movie aside, I would like to know if you can review these movies :-)
    - Paruthi Veeran
    - Subramaniyapuram
    - Kancheevaram
    - Yaavarum Nalam
    - Chennai 28

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We’ll take a look at Netflix today and see what they have.

  13. a4apple says:

Late Padmarajan was a great Malayalam director and scriptwriter. (Aparan, Thoovanthumbikal, Njan Gandharvan etc). In one of his movies (Moonnam Pakkam) there is a character portrayed by Jagathy Sreekumar called ‘kavala’. A mentally retarded character that he is he retorts to people by pulling up his lungi. SI is kavala or even worse, and the agony is we have to see it again and again in the form of so-called reviews which are nothing but words filled with hatred in a Varun Gandhi fashion and his/her/it’s responses to comments.

SI liked Pokkiri (Tamil version) despite the fact that it had Vijay and Asin who should be sent for private tuition to the kid who acted in Slumdog; nothing original in there as it was frame to frame copy of a blockbuster. But SI found Pokkiri entertaining and not Ayan. That is interesting!

Ayan is entertaining plus it has continuity plus it doesn’t travel in the clichéd paths (Das is just another ordinary man who don’t travel in Lexus with 13 Sumos escorting him! Surya doesn’t have a so-called introduction scene or introduction song in the movie etc etc). K.V. Anad (one of the best cinematographers in India) does a good job as he did in Kana Kandein.

I found the scene in Africa showing ethnic atrocities (the football scene) very well taken. It had the signature of a director and probably this is the only Indian film that toned down the color mode for foreign locations and toned up the color mode for India. Every time Surya returned to India it was a visual treat. I don’t think SI noticed this. You know what SI? When you are a kid you learn all the bad words and that’s ok, but when you grow up spend your time to learn some thing meaningful, learn some thing about cinema, learn about cinematography (Red One????) or at the bare minimum learn some decency, please.

I am not sure whether you have heard about K. Balachander sir’s movie ‘Sindhu Bhairavi’. An actor is not judged by his dancing skills! Are you going to tell me next that De Niro is a bad actor because he can’t dance? Shut up you idiot!!!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: SI liked Pokkiri (Tamil version) despite the fact that it had Vijay and Asin

Pokiri was a well crafted movie unlike Ayan.

With Pokiri, the story, acting, songs, audience response in the theatre, twist et al were all far superior to Ayan. Is it any surprise that Pokiri turned out to be one of the biggest hits for Vijay.

    2. You write: nothing original in there as it was frame to frame copy of a blockbuster

As if originality is a prized virtue in Tamil movies (Saroja, Ghajini, Thenali, Aanai…plenty of examples of outright theft in Tamil movies).

    3. You write: the agony is we have to see it again and again in the form of so-called reviews

You talk like the gluttonous voyeur who having his fill of the lascivious images blabbers later that it’s all so vulgar. Get real.

Vandatangapa comedy pasanga (here come the clowns).

  14. supergirl says:

sigh….i cant believe I’m saying this but i have to agree with you. I don’t understand why Surya is wasting his potential in such movies….he is such a talented actor, he just needs the right scripts. Hopefully he’ll sign something meaningful.

BTW, I would just like to say that your reviews are an absolute delight to read. They are very objective and unbiased. I would love to read your reviews on the following movies:

    Hindi

    Rock On!!
    A Wednesday
Andaz apna apna (old but awesome movie)

    Tamil

    Vaali
    Indian (* Kamal hassan)
    Anjali (old Mani Rathnam movie)
    Alaipayuthey
    Thalapathi

Also, as a matter of interest, do you also watch telugu movies? would love to read those reviews as well.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Telugu movies? The prospect is scary. They are still in the paleolithic era.

As for the other movies in your list, we’ll do them one by one. We’ve already seen a few (A Wednesday).

Rakamma song (Rajini-Sonu Walia) in Thalapathi is a favorite.

  15. sumeshy says:

    Hi SI,

Its really feels great to come back and read all the blogs after a long time. Ooh! missed your reviews man really :)

thanks on the heads up on Ayan. Was wanting to watch a tamil movie and then decided no to. As an aside, did watch Villu on DVD with a friend. The movie aint even an original, its copy of the movie “Soldier” (Bobby Deol caper). Well, it took us 40 minutes to swtich it off though.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    Welcome back.

You write: As an aside, did watch Villu on DVD with a friend

Well, some people are gluttons for inflicting punishment on themselves. ;)

  16. supergirl says:

haha….i understand the prospect of telugu films might be scary..but trust me some of them are really good…hey pokiri and santosh subramaniyam were remakes of telugu movies and they were not that bad eh?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    We’ve seen Santosh Subramaniyam too.

  17. sadumon4u says:

Dear SI, please don’t put surya in the list containing vijay, ajith, vishal and simbhu.

Please. Its a request. Don’t put him with these craps. Its injustice.

He has the potential to do good roles and he has done it before. Masala movies are an essential part of tamil cinema and everyone have done it. Now we hear a news that bala has roped him in for his next project. So we shall probably hope for a classic like pithamahan. Even though ghajini was stolen from memento, his performance was his own effort and we have to appreciate it. Aamir was a total failure when compared to his performance. We obviously should not ignore good talent. Kaaka kaaka and nandha were also grt. Just couldn’t bear you putting him in those list. That’s y i’ve written this. Thanks. Waiting for your response.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We love Kaaka Kaakha. Listening to Uyrin uyire in the background as we type this.

We watched Nandhaa too a few years back. Decent movie.

But to subject paying audience with crap like Vel, Vaaranam Aayiram and that sori padam Ayan is unforgivable.

Surya makes no effort to improve. He seems to treat acting as if it’s a picnic or a walk in the park. Any surprise then that his movies don’t set the box office on fire.

  18. Asha Tampa says:

SI is just a single person. Its impossible for multiple ppl to share the same sense of humor, same style of writing, same style of responding to abuse with really creative abuse.

SI is a HE and HE was born in 24 December 1974.

I know you’ll refute my statement, but I dare you to tell us your birthday ;)

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

SI is a genderless mutant clone.

  19. Aswin_Kini says:

Hey buddy, maybe you should watch the film, Mounam Pesiyadhe, a very good film by Amir with some neat performances by Surya and then newcomers Trisha and Nanda.
COnsidering the sequence of quality films Surya did in the mid 2000s, it is quite disappointing to see him do Masala films nowadays!

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

If Trisha is awful now, guess how abominable she must have been as a newcomer.

Unfortunately, Netflix does not have Mounam Pesiyadhe.
She’s emetic-medication (induces vomitting). Pathetic. Well, Tamils love her. What can we say.

  20. shadowfax_arbit says:

Trisha’s acting is good in Ghilli. It was much better than that of Bhoomika Chawla’s in Telugu version. Even in Lesa Lesa and Kireedam she had acted well. But unfortunately she doesn’t act the same way in all the movies. Now she’s acting with Simbu in Gautham Menon’s movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. Im not sure if it was intentional but this still http://tcln.blogspot.com/2009/02/vinnaithaandi-varuvaaya-silambarasan.html
looks like that of Alaipayuthe and this one
    http://www.behindwoods.com/hindi-tamil-galleries/vinnai-thaandi-varuvaaya-03/vinnai-thaandi-varuvaaya-02.html
is like that of Kaaka Kaaka…

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Trisha can’t act. She’s a disgrace to all notions of art.

  21. shadowfax_arbit says:

But this pair is no match to Madhavan-Shalini in Alaipayuthe or Surya-Jyo in Kaaka Kaaka.

Man you missed Alaipayuthe… I was really shocked to see that stunning screenplay and how realistic a movie can ever be made. From then, I became fan of Manirathnam.

  22. katiekateBKLN says:

    Hi SearchIndia,
In spite of your warnings, I’d still like to see Ayan on a big screen. Is there any theatre in NYC that shows Tamil movies? I see it’s in Edison, NJ but that’s a hike. I’m willing to take my chances, I’m sick of watching movies on my TV.
    Thanks

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

We’ve heard rumors that Obama has replaced water-boarding with Ayan screenings for all detainees, both domestic and foreign. Apparently, water-boarding was not effective enough and they wanted something stronger. They looked around and found Ayan.

So if you’re looking for Ayan screenings in NYC, your best bet would be to try Riker’s Island. ;)

Seriously, we did a quick check and couldn’t find any screenings close to NYC. Looks like MovieCity in Edison is the only option.

  23. katiekateBKLN says:

To get those detainees singing, I nominate ‘Citizen’ with Ajith- Myself, I would have signed anything to make it stop.

I figure with Ayan, at least Surya is good to look at, although (and I can’t believe I’m saying it) he’s too in shape. Looks like a protein powder advert; my girlfriends and I all agree we like guys with ‘a bit more cuddle’ on them.

Hmm. Is there ever a place that you know of in the 5 boroughs that shows Tamil flicks? I don’t own a car….
I’d found a place in West New York, NJ listed on Sulekha as showing them, Sagar Mayfair Triplex, but it was a typo.
I really enjoy reading your reviews, even when I don’t agree. You have the art of skewering something down to a science!
    Thanks

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    You might want to check:
    Bombay Theatre
    6825 Fresh Meadow Lane
    Flushing, NY 11365
    (718) 358-2929
    and
    Mayfair Theatre
    6405 Park Avenue
    West New York, NJ 07093
    (201) 869-3333

  24. Raju says:

SI: You might want to check
I never learnt how to use the may, might, can, could, will, would, should, shall etc. I was thinking that “You may want to check” would sound better here.. what’s your reasoning behind “might”

Kate: my girlfriends and I all agree we like guys with ‘a bit more cuddle’ on them.
Do you girls like a little beer gut? Would you consider that cuddly? No innuendo intended.. just a straight question.
I think the six-pack obsession for men is a little bit like the breast-implant obsession for women .. atleast six-packs are healthier (if no ‘roids are involved) and cheaper.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

When we use a word or expression, we go by ‘does it sound right’…If it does, we go right ahead.

In this instance, both ‘may want to’ and ‘might want to’ sound right. So it comes down to personal preference.

Offtopic – Have you ever been to TGIF?

  25. Raju says:

Yeah, 3 or 4 times.. last time was about 8 years ago.. not a big fan.. a friend of ours was gushing last week that their ice creams were awesome.. why? a domino-style TGIF youtube video has popped up?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: a domino-style TGIF youtube video has popped up?

    No such luck ;)

Someone mentioned the other day they have good drinks.

If they have good ice creams, one more reason to go there…tired of Baskin Robbins, Friendly’s, Haagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry et al.

  26. singgakutty says:

watched this movie with my wife last friday..

compared to villu, kuruvi, silambattam etc, i must say i enjoyed the movie..

there was no ‘rajni style’ intro.. there was no ‘rajni style’ punch dialogue.. which u can see in vijay, simbu and ajith’s movies..

someone said 10 minutes into the movie, they already know the new guy is the spy.. me too.. too easy..

as for tamana, i don’t see why she is needed in the movie.. she has nothing to do with the storyline..

and the car chase scene in KL malaysia.. it made me laugh..

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write above: compared to villu, kuruvi, silambattam etc, i must say i enjoyed the movie..

How unfortunate that we judge a Tamil movie these days by comparing it to the worst but not to the best.

Surya was lucky. Given the lack of strong competition, Ayan seems to be having a decent run. Did the distributors/exhibitors make good money? Hard to say but we intend to remain skeptical that it’s a blockbuster unless there is compelling data to prove us wrong.

  27. a4apple says:

SI Says, “Given the lack of strong competition, Ayan seems to be having a decent run.”

This comment shows your complete ignorance on movie industry. In Indian film business, no movie ‘runs’ based on competition. A plethora of examples would show more than one movie crashing at the box office at the same time and more than one movie becoming block busters at the same time. Even if we go by your ‘intelligent’ deduction, what about the IPL? Watched by a huge proportion, cricket is the biggest threat to movies as per pundits and a major cricket season is the worst season for commercial cinema.

SI continues, “Hard to say but we intend to remain skeptical that it’s a blockbuster unless there is compelling data to prove us wrong”.

Check out whether Ayan was released in Bishop Rock and get the box office details. You will be able to prove that Ayan wasn’t commercially viable, as you always do.

Facts: Ayan is the biggest grosser in Surya’s filmography; highest grosser so far in 2009 Tamil cinema; still holding on to releasing centers IN INDIA; the Telugu version releasing this week end.

Request: “Surya was lucky” At the bare minimum, please restrain your self from such amateurish comments.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You are a complete schmuck. Since a semi-literate ignoramus will most likely consider ’schmuck’ as a compliment, it means blithering idiot.

If competition is irrelevant (as you claim) for the performance of a movie, why is it that we seldom see two movies featuring big stars releasing on the same day. This is true of both Bollywood and Kollywood.

Take the total number of movies released in Bollywood and Kollywood and compare their release schedule. It’s rare for two movies featuring two stars to release on the same day.

After Aegan and Villu, the next movie featuring a big Tamil star was Ayan.

The others are irrelevant. This ‘competition trend’ we spoke of is more pronounced in Bollywood given the higher number of releases there.

    2. The operative word in our sentence was “strong” in “strong competition.”

True, there’s always some idiot in Chennai or Mumbai releasing a money come Friday. But those D-grade bozos are not in the same league as Surya.

Even with the cricket fever, there’s still time to catch a movie during the odd hours (matinee, morning show et al).

    3. You write: Ayan is the biggest grosser in Surya’s filmography; highest grosser so far in 2009 Tamil cinema; still holding on to releasing centers IN INDIA;

What is your source for the above claim? Ayanavaram Express? Teynampet Times? Arupukottai Chronicle?

Most likely, your news must be coming from the Cooum Chudar.

  28. Sriram says:

Hi..Is Sarvvam released in U.S..if so when will you review it?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Yes, Sarvam is releasing here today. Here are the showtimes.

We are skipping it because Trisha is a lousy actress.

  29. a4apple says:

SI, please don’t do that. ‘Sarvam’ falls into your favorite category – thiruttu padam. It will give you enough opportunity to do Simon Cowelling provided you have seen ‘21 grams’. ‘Amores Perros’ and ‘21 grams’ are must watch from the Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu. You can skip the ‘Babel’ though.

However, Nirav Shah does a fabulous job here. He is the cinematographer. There is an inclination towards primary colors and white is rarely used in Indian cinema. Refer to any of Santhosh Sivan’s work and you will know this. The impact of Santhosh Sivan was so huge that one can find traces of him in the works of Rajiv Menon, Ravi K Chandran, Manikandan, K V Anand, Thiru, Kumar etc.

Nirav Shah on the contrary is highly successful in creating a unique style of his own. To my conviction he is probably the only cinematographer who treats the first print as negative (negative as in those 36photos film days) and works heavily on the negative to get the final result. Purists may differ here as every image that appears on screen is digitally ‘touched’. Since we are on the topic, I believe that the best cinematographic work from Indian cinema in 2008 was in ‘rock-on’. Every thing else about the movie was crap and what Jason West did for ‘rock-on’ rocked.

  30. Unknown says:

juz wanna ask this (no offence)
i have seen most of your kollywood reviews .
y mostly all the movies are garbage ? n how come great movies (lyk mozhi , pokkiri ) are juz decent movies ?
they ran well . by ran well for days and collected gd amount of money . by the way i m from singapore . i have been to india (both north and south)i have seen people enjoying movies from vijay, ajith ,etc . there r great numbers of vijay n ajith fans all over here. even though most movies recently given by them are not so gd , they gross great amount . two weeks ago, i saw vijay`s fans celebrating villu`s 135 day at madras

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. Mozhi and Pokiri were enjoyable and we said so in our reviews.

This is what we wrote about Pokiri in our review:

Pokiri is a first class Pongal gift for Tamil movie lovers worldwide.

Loaded with charm, the highlights of Pokiri include an above average story, solid performance by Vijay ably supported by Asin and superb music.

Here’s what we wrote about Mozhi:

Mozhi is a bewitching aberration in the crowded marketplace of bad Tamil movies.

Featuring fine performances by Prithwiraj Sukumaran, Prakash Raj and Swarnamalya, this first-class movie is marred only by the pathetic portrayal of a deaf and dumb girl by Jyothika.

    2. You write: even though most movies recently given by them are not so gd , they gross great amount . two weeks ago, i saw vijay`s fans celebrating villu`s 135 day at madras

The only reason we can think of for this 100-day nonsense for crap movies in Chennai/Madras is that some people in the city drink the Cooum sewage water straight from the source.

Drunk on the Cooum sludge, these are the ‘fans’ who celebrate 100th day and 500th day for unwatchable horror shows in Chennai.

It beggars belief that that crap like Villu should be running for 135-days. Vijay’s Villu was plain garbage.

wat do expect from vettaikaran n asal
n who do u lyk as an actor

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. You write: wat do expect from vettaikaran n asal

Our crystal ball’s battery has run out. So we can’t comment. ;)

Also, we also don’t know if Vijay and Ajith have taken acting classes in the recent past. ;)

On a more serious note, we hope Vettaikaran or Asal will be worth the ticket money. In the recent past, both Vijay and Ajith have treated Tamil movie fans with scant respect through movies like Villu, Aegan, Kuruvi et al.

Bottom line, we’ve an open mind on Vettaikaran and Asal.

    2. You write: n who do u lyk as an actor

Buy a dictionary. It’s like not lyk.

We have no great love for any particular actor or actress.

In Kollywood, we suppose Kamal Haasan is the best among the worst.

Vishal is probably the worst of the worst.

On the distaff side, Trisha and Nayantara are the dregs. Meera Jasmine, Padmapriya and Navya Nair are among the better ones.

As we said in our response to your previous comment, you are a fu**ing schmuck to think we’d process a comment that contains abuse against us.

Reserve the trash for your friends and family.

It’s really a shame that you guy(s) live in the US, because the only good movies releasing nowadays are on very small budgets: Masilamani, Pasanga, et al. They def. did not make it to the US. So, every movie that you do see is going to be crap. Just a warning.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Yes, your warning is taken note of.

BTW, what’s the buzz on Achchumundu Achchumundu in India/elsewhere?

  34. Albert Camus says:

I heard Pasanga was good.. Must Masilamani?? I heard that is another crapfest. I like Sunaina/Sunayana/whatever though.. yet to see her first movie (of Naakka Mukka fame), but I like her in the various photos.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    We like her too. ;)

  35. ameritamil says:

Achchumundu! Achchumundu! is releasing today, I’ll tell you about the response when I can.

To Albert, Masilamani was good, albeit not original. The presentation and songs were outstanding. Pasanga was probably the funniest movie I’ve seen for a while… excellent movie.

  36. ameritamil says:

BTW and off topic, what would you say is your favorite Tamil movie of all time? (Please give one that you have reviewed)

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

No favorite Tamil movies. Except maybe those featuring the holy trinity i.e. Meera Jasmine, Navya Nair or Vimala Raman ;)

Na oru tadhava sonnu nooru thadava sonna madhiri. :)

  37. ameritamil says:

No, I just wondered ’cause Kannathil Muthamittal is the only movie you haven’t said anything bad about.

PS: Have you seen Ayutha Ezhuthu/Yuva (Tamil/Hindi)?

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

Yuva? Yes. A few years back on DVD.

  38. indianmaster says:

Between, have you watched maria full of grace (spanish movie)?

This movie is about smuggling of cocaine from colombia to US by swallowing. KV Anand copied the entire “swallowing” concept from this movie. Not only the concept, even the screenplay.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

You write: have you watched maria full of grace (spanish movie)

Maria Full of Grace looks interesting.

Has very favorable reviews on both Netflix and RT.

    Will watch.

  39. tiramisu says:

Happened to watch this movie recently…looks like most aspects of the movie have been dissected already.

What is galling is the plagiarism with the action sequences. The chasing, running on the roof and jumping through the windows is a lift from the Bourne Ultimatum.

And oh BTW happened to watch another one ‘Unnale Unnale’, in this case they had the temerity to not just lift action sequences but even sections of the background score from the Bourne trilogy.

None of these fellas can hold a candle to Paul Greengrass who is one of the masters in the action movie genre who directed the Bourne trilogy. Watch out for his ‘Green Zone’ based on Rajiv Chandrsekaran’s book – ‘Imperial Life in the Emerald City’.

    SearchIndia.com Responds:

    1. Unnale Unnale is the Tamil film industry going Pinnale Pinnale.

    2. Didn’t realize there was movie material in Rajiv’s book (we have read the reviews in NYT and elsewhere but not the book itself).

    3. Ayan was a piece of shit. But some folks claim it made money in India. Hard to say.

We remember the chasing, running on the roof and jumping through the windows scene from Bourne Ultimatum. Well executed, as were the other action scenes in that fast-paced movie.
