It’s 7:57PM ET and only 29 kids turned up for the ‘Trick or Treat’ candies this year.

Over the years, we’ve seen a gradual decline in the number of kids coming out.

Maybe, the kids are scared of the bogeyman or is it the Swine Flu outbreak that makes the parents wary of sending the children outside.

The number of homes that have lights outside – a signal for the kids to stop by – is also very few this year.

It’s 7:59PM now and we’re shutting off the lights.

We’re suckers for anything old.

Why do you think we’re besotted with budiyas like Rajshri, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Madhavi, Tabu, Meenakshi Seshadri, Vimala Raman et al. ;)

It being Friday, we sauntered over to Apple’s digital media store iTunes and bought ourselves a bunch of mostly old Hindi songs, tracks that we’ve already listened to a billion times over the decades. OK, if that sounds like hyperbole to you let’s just say a million times, shall we.

Here are the nonpareil tracks we purchased for our iPhone and PC today:

* Zindagi Ek Safar – from the Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Shammi Kapoor film Andaz (1971).

* Gaadi Bula Rahi Hai – This one is from the old film XXXX – can you guess which one? No, you can’t? Hey, it’s Dost (1974).

No, it’s got nothing to do with mommy, you oedipal weirdos. ;)

Although Mome (pronounced mohm) is considered an archaic word by our copy of the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th Edition, p.800), we’ve come across a few contemporary instances of its use.

The term means blockhead or fool.

London Dreams – Humiliating Box Office Disaster

No go, folks.

You can skip London Dreams, according to Indian movie critics who have thrashed the movie (featuring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and the Mallu midget Asin).

Here are some galling excerpts from the reviews of a sample of Indian critics:

* NDTV:

London Dreams is a frustratingly dim-witted drama about artistic passion, friendship and insecurity. The script, written by Suresh Nair, has the complexity of a cartoon . Moments of high drama are undermined by sheer silliness.

….Most of us don’t watch Hindi films for their verisimilitude but honestly, how much disbelief can a viewer suspend.

* Rediff:

The biggest problem with London Dreams is that in a film about music and its lessons in humility, the most crucial musical moments are handled amateurishly, which makes it all look unconvincing.

The band’s spectacular rise is as hurried and implausible

No triumph of peace is quite as great as the supreme triumph of war.

By the way, there’s a nice interview with Gore Vidal in The Atlantic.

Oh, whip me please. Harder, harder.

If you are the whip-me, please whip me kind that loves to fork out $12 and get a stinging flagellation in return then this Ek Niranjan vile trash is for you.

Sick Shit
Folks, Ek Niranjan is so much worse than we feared.

Who let Ek Niranjan director Puri Jagganadh on the film sets, we want to know. Besides direction, this clown takes credit for the story, screenplay and dialogs.

Thank God our understanding of Telugu is limited. Think how much more damage these schmucks would have inflicted on our tender soul.

The story, if you dare call this mind numbing trash that, is about a young bounty hunter Chotu (Prabhas) who’s been kidnapped as a child by a local ruffian from his real parents and put to work initially as a beggar.

As a bounty hunter, our Chotu is now the scourge of criminals given his penchant for bashing up the baddies and hauling them off to the police station for modest payments.

Chotu’s work as a bounty hunter brings him on a collision course with a cartoon of a villain called Johnny Bhai (Sonu Sood) given to shooting his underlings when they tell him he’s the biggest villain in town or mouthing off silly sentences in English.

Bollywood babe Kangana Ranaut plays the female lead Sameera.

A guitar teacher, Sameera is also the sister of one of the baddies in Johnny Bhai’s gang.

Not much of an actress and most definitely not much of a looker, how Kangana managed a role in this
